Auldcathy

For many centuries, the ruins of Auldcathy Kirk have stood alone in a large field about half a mile to the northwest of Winchburgh. Far from any road or track and surrounded by cereal crops, its isolated location and mysterious past have all added to its enigmatic aura, and as with any enigma, the answers are hard to come by, but we do have clues.  Scattered around in old books, old newspapers, reports from modern archaeological digs, online resources and satellite imagery, there are small but tantalising snippets of information from history that can perhaps give us a better understanding of this lonely ruin and its story.

As the lands of Auldcathy change once again this piece is an effort to collect all these snippets together and weave them into the story of Auldcathy Kirk.
